Where to find the GemAdviser application? |
|
By default the GemAdviser
can be start from the menu:
Start -> Programs
-> OctoNus Software -> GemAdviser
|
|
How to open a file? |
|
Use
the "File/Open..." menu comand or
press
button on toolbar.
You'll be presented with an "Open File"
dialog. Go to "Samples" folder and
select one of sample gem.-files then press
"open".
|
The
GemAdviser reads the data from the '.gem'
files created with the help of the DiamCalc
2. software. A couple of the '.gem' examples
is provided with the GemAdviser installation
package. The .gem files are copied in the
'Samples' folder inside 'GemAdviser' folder
during the installation. You can also find
more .gem files on
this page.

How to switch between different presenation
modes? |
|
The GemAdviser allows
to see:
- a photo-realistic
images of the stone and a
movie with the stone tilting in different
directions
- a short information
about the stone: weight, shape and cut,
proportions etc.
- cut quality parameters
for diamonds: Light Return, Light Leakage
etc.
To
switch between different presentation modes
click appropriate button on the toolbar.

Photo-realistic virtual images of the stone
and a movie. |
|
|
The button with
a diamond picture on a computer monitor switches
the GemAdviser to present photo-realistic
images of the stone and to play a movie.
- "Drag"
the stone with the mouse to tilte the stone.
- Press the play button
to see a movie. You need to wait until
movie data is calculated before a movie
begins to play. This can take a couple of
minutes depending on the CPU speed. The
red indicator on the button shows the progress
of a data calculation. The stop button
stops the movie playing or movie calculation.

Different lighting models for photo-realistic
images and movies. |
|
|
The button with
a lamp picture switches the different lighting
models to be used for the photo-realistic
images of the stone and movies.
Press on the "lamp"
button and yuo will be presented with the
following options:
- "Office"
and "Disco" (standard lighting
models).
- "Original"
(the lighting model supplied with file)
- "Leakage"
and "Light return" (special lighting
models to evaluate diamond light return
and leakage)

Cut Quality. |
|
|
The next button
with "Q" icon switches the GemAdviser
to present Diamond Light Return, Leakage,
Contrast and Fisheye.
Click on the desired
parameter and you'll be present with the details
of its computation.

Short information about the stone. |
|
|
The button with
a "diamond with a sheet" icon switches
the GemAdviser to present a short information
about the stone.
You'll be
presented witha couple of information, like
weight, shape and cut, dimentions and proportions.
